Over 2016/2017, Xactium has committed to sponsoring Special Olympics Great Britain by hosting and taking part in a range of fundraising activities ahead of the games, which are taking place across a number of sporting venues in Sheffield between 7-11 August 2017.
With one week to go until the opening ceremony, Xactium is proud to announce we have raised a total of £11,293 which will contribute significantly to the success of the event and more importantly, the athletes involved.
Special Olympics Great Britain’s National Summer Games is the country’s largest multi-sports event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. As their flagship event, it is held every 4 years and represents a huge opportunity to showcase the abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, allowing them to compete at a national level, experience the personal achievement this brings, as well as enable them to make friends, travel and socialise.
Over the last 18 months Xactium has hosted a range of events from family fun days to fashion shows, individual sporting challenges to internal regular cake bake days. Our key event held in June saw Xactium host its most successful fundraising event at local restaurant Prithiraj. The evening was a huge success raising an impressive £8,000; a combination of event ticket sales, generous donations from local companies as well as raffle ticket sales.
Andy Evans, Managing Director at Xactium said: “These funds couldn’t have been raised without the efforts of the Xactium employees and the drive behind our CSR team. Goodluck and congratulations in advance to all those competing, we’re proud to have contributed to such a worthy cause and look forward to joining in with the Olympic festivities in Sheffield, over the coming weeks.”
This figure will contribute enormously to the success of the games, an occasion that will signify a huge landmark for around 2,600 athletes with intellectual disabilities, who will be supported over 4 days of competition by 800 coaches, 750 volunteers and 150 officials.
BBC Radio Sheffield recently shared a video featuring some of the faces representing Yorkshire and The Humber including Michael Evans, a team player who is part of our Xactium family, taking part in the Table Tennis competition.
