This year saw the 4th annual Xactium conference take place at the Royal Institution in London, home of the Christmas Lectures and considered the birthplace of modern science. The theme of this year's event was focused around Positive Risk management and how risk professionals can create a positive risk experience across their organisation as well as get proactive employee engagement in the risk process.
Welcoming more than 100 delegates from across the world of financial services and infrastructure, the day started in the Faraday Theatre, with the opening key note given by Dr Ariane Chapelle from Chapelle Consulting.
Drawing from her 20 years working and teaching operational risk, she offered valuable insight into how risk managers should assess opportunity costs as well as learn from business success stories and positive outliers to improve organisational performance and growth.
Mid-morning saw David Smith from THB Group take to stage, to talk about how risk teams should be going out and engaging with the wider business, offering some pearls of wisdom and life lessons passed on to him by his own dad when he was a child!
After a quick networking and refreshments break, we introduced our 5 customer panelists from StepChange, Arbuthnot Latham & Co, THB Group, Baillie Gifford & Morses Club.
Each panelist gave their own account as to the challenges faced in their organisations before discovering Xactium, as well as how their Xactium solution was implemented and the overall benefits it has achieved for them.
Andy Evans, founder and MD of Xactium was then welcomed to the stage to deliver some key insight into current product developments on the roadmap as well as delving into our continued focus on digital technologies and AI. Within his speech he also detailed our values as a company and how we support many local groups and charities including the Special Olympics with whom we have worked closely with over the last few years, raising funds and providing sports equipment for their athletes.
Greg Silvester, an ambassador for Special Olympics GB was invited to speak about his own life experiences and how the organisation gave him the tools and a purpose to go out and succeed. You can watch his amazing speech here.
Britain's first astronaut Helen Sharman, delivered an inspirational presentation after Lunch, giving a detailed account into her incredible journey from humble scientist to the first UK citizen to travel to space.
Her story is one that only a handful of people would ever be able to tell, offering a unique perspective of what life onboard a space station is truly like as well as a glimpse as to the coordination and efforts involved in launching an astronaut into space!
Andy caught up with Helen briefly before her speech to find out more about what it takes to become an astronaut and the elements of risk involved with going to space travel.
The Xactium team, in the afternoon hosted a variety of different workshops around key areas of product development, including Xactium SMCR, released earlier in the year and Xactium Audit.
There was also a focused looked at our AI and analytics tools and demonstrations of Xactium on the Salesforce lightning platform and reporting capabilities. John Shelton also led a discussion on Operational Resilience a growing topic of conversation within UK based financial services.
Many organisations often deal with managing some level of change when it comes to introducing different ways of doing things, such is the case when it comes to implementing a new system such as our own. Our final speaker of the day was communications expert Peter Lee, who offered a thought provoking and interactive session on how individuals and teams can go about managing change within their organisations.
