University of Sheffield Enterprise bridges graduate skills gap with cloud CRM
Xactium has built a bespoke system for University of Sheffield Enterprise (USE), which helps students and recent graduates evoke their entrepreneurial spirit. Delivered by Xactium’s Professional Services team, the new solution helps staff in the department to collate data such as seminar attendance and funding received to quickly build reports on budding entrepreneurs.
At a time of higher university fees, students expect more value for money from higher education. UK universities must be able to measure and evidence the impact of their activities, both curricular and extracurricular, and give their students the attributes they need to make them stand out in the graduate jobs market.
University of Sheffield Enterprise is encouraging its users to seize these opportunities and make their ideas happen. USE offers a wide range of both curricular and extracurricular activities. This includes Making Ideas Happen, an interdisciplinary module, multi-level enterprise module, and Skill Build, an extracurricular course which attracts, on average, 300 students per session. It has also recently opened a business incubator which will support students and graduates to grow their business ideas.
USE has grown significantly this year and has over 2,600 clients on its books, making data management a big challenge to improving engagement with its users. Xactium won a competitive pitch against three other companies to provide a customised CRM solution built on the Salesforce Platform.
Before Xactium’s involvement, Liz Taylor, Enterprise Officer at USE was dealing with many spreadsheets at times, spending hours trying to get an overview of the various activities. Taylor explained the importance of a customised system in providing its clients with a high quality service: "We needed a single view of users’ details so we can see if they have applied for a place at the business incubator or a bursary from our Growth Fund."
Taylor was very impressed with Xactium’s technical knowledge, positive attitude and professionalism. She recalled: “Xactium really, really listened to what I wanted and went beyond the call of duty. For example, they produced a video for my colleague to train her on the new system. The whole process was fast. It took two Xactium developers just three weeks to scope and deliver the solution. Now, I can pull up the full details on any registered client with a tap on my iPad.”
